The white house was called Plague House, and also you can see Hell's Gate and Jekertower.

At the right of the white house there was a little space for the people who suffered from the Plague and got cared for by brave nurses. The Hell's Gate was a gate close-by this house, and got his name. People who suffered from the Plague were seen that they were cursed by the devil, who lives in Hell.

...

Just joking!!! No, the house on the right surved as a sanctuary for victims of the Plague, but the house was called 'In de Helle' where you can see the word Hell. So it has nothing to do with the devil nor Hell. 'In de Helle' was common for bakeries and blacksmith's shops.

The Jekertower used to stand with his 'feet' in the Jeker. The Jeker used to run along the first city wall, which actually functioned as a city moat. Later on in history the Jeker was transported a little down south.
I was actually standing on the bridge over the Jeker when I took this picture.

 yes, a lot of people who live in Maastricht thought that for years, and still do think AND that the Plague house was the whole white house, but actually it was a small dependance of the big white house.
